The Fire Training Ground

Our fire training ground gives you the opportunity to learn how to handle fires on board ships and on land in a controlled and safe environment. You will find our fire training area at Klintkajen in Mariehamn.

The training facility is modern, safe, and environmentally friendly. We use gas as fuel during outdoor exercises, which produces no smoke.

At the training ground, you will also find a smoke diving simulator where you can practice response operations. The simulator is built from a system of containers, giving the impression of a building or a ship.

The difficulty level of the smoke diving exercises is adjusted through the addition of heat and artificial smoke. Fires are always set in controlled conditions. The simulator is equipped with flue gas purification, and all extinguishing water is cleaned before being sent to the city’s wastewater treatment plant.

The fire training ground also allows simulation of large and small liquid fires, fires in tanks containing hazardous materials, car fires, tank leaks, and much more.

Your safety and well-being are our highest priority. Our experienced instructors are always close at hand to guide and assist you. We are here for you every step of the way.

Equipment

• Cold smoke diving in an authentic environment (e.g., cabin, hotel, apartment corridor, galley, kitchen)
• Hot smoke diving, e.g., in an engine room/boiler room, where the fire can be attacked horizontally
• Simulator for smoke diving in a cage system (with heat option)
• Car fire simulator (e.g., workshop, car deck on ships)
• Fire lab
• Outdoor extinguishing system
• Chemical spill/leakage (e.g., fuel spill from loose tank, fuel station, or weather deck)
• Roof module for training roof cutting/lowering and securing with a line
• Well for training lifting/securing an injured person
• Testing of nozzles and pumps
• Bridge simulator/command center simulator
